Humpback whales are special. Why? They are the only whale species known to take on killer whales (orcas) to defend other animals who have become the prey of killer whales. Observers and photographers have repeatedly caught humpback whales arriving, even when they have not been seen in the area, when an animal such as a seal caught on a floating piece of ice or a whale mother and her calf are being targeted by killer whales. Killer whales are said to be quiet until they attack and it is believed their attack calls are what ends up summoning humpback whales to the area. Humpbacks have been known to stay anywhere from an hour to seven hours until the orca threat is eliminated.
This wall art features a large humpback whale with two dimensional touches to give it depth. It has been given a worn look to allow rich wood tones to show through making it a real show piece. In its construction, this large piece has gone through many steps to get to where it is. It has been meticulously sanded over and over, then stained and left to dry. It was then painted in black and white and left to dry. The piece is then sanded carefully, stained where needed, left to dry, and finally given three coats of sealer, cured between each coat. **Takes 1-2 weeks to make and ship.
Finishing the piece is hardware making it ready to be hung.
